Auction results – 8 March 2021

The highlights from the weekend’s auction results were:

  1. The national auction clearance rate was 84.5%, improving from last week’s 81.9%. This time last year was 68.6%.
  2. Auction volumes dip, as expected due to 4 capital cities enjoying a long-weekend, with a total of 1,587 auctions held, compared with 2,473 last week, but stronger than last year’s 1,494.
  3. For the sixth week in a row, Canberra, Adelaide and Sydney return clearances above 80% with Canberra again leading the pack with 91.5%. Melbourne has also rejoined the above 80% clearance rate cohort following the previous weekend’s 77.7%. Above 70% signifies a strong market. Above 80% tells us that us this is a rapidly moving market.
  4. All capital city clearance rates are higher than this time last year.
