Friends and family may have your best interests at heart, but does that mean you should take their advice when buying property? We go to a dentist to look after our teeth and see an accountant for our tax. If we are unsure, we get a second opinion.

The property and mortgage market is no different. While your family are undoubtedly well-meaning, they may not be experts in this field and their views may be informed by sensationalist media hype.

We are not suggesting that you should ignore your family completely. Listen to what they have to say, do your research and talk to an independent property expert for a fuller view.
