Why we like it.
Enmore is 6 km SW from the city. It is a small inner city suburb, lined with narrow streets, laneways and character homes. The character homes are mainly detached and there are also a few two storey terraced homes. Enmore has a lovely village feel, similar to that of its neighbours, Newtown and Erskineville.
Just like its neighbours, it is also undergoing the gentrification process but it is not as far down the path of renewal as Erskineville or Newtown. Enmore is a desirable and trendy location. It has an eclectic mix of people who are attracted by the arts culture, character homes and the inner city lifestyle. The popular Enmore Theatre is situated here, well known for its live shows and comedy acts.
The majority of shops are on Enmore Rd but there is more extensive shopping at the nearby Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre. There are no primary or high schools here but the Enmore Campus of the TAFE Design Centre is situated on Edgeware Rd. There are two highly sought after schools in the immediate area; Newington College is in neighbouring Stanmore and the Newtown High School of Performing Arts is approximately 1 km away.
There is a bus service in Enmore. Even though there is no train line in Enmore, there are two train stations within walking distance; Newtown and St. Peters stations. Enmore has very limited green open space but Enmore Park is located in neighbouring Marrickville. This park is large and is popular with families and pet owners. For those who prefer water activities, Enmore Park also has an aquatic centre.
Why you should buy here
– Undervalued suburb, close to the city.
– There are many renovation opportunities due to the high percentage of character homes in the area.
Areas to focus on
Character homes with off street parking, close to Enmore Rd are the type of property to target. Enmore Rd is at one of the highest points in this suburb. Buying property close to this road can provide the owner with elevated views.
Areas to avoid
Living on Enmore Rd is not recommended as it is the main road running through this suburb. Edgeware Rd and Liberty St are also quite busy.
